Fruit Trees

The sweet but sour Acerola 🍒

This bright, red, cherry like fruit has varying tastes during different stages as it ripens. When fully ripe, the fruit of the Acerola is juicy and aromatic, with its acid content giving it a sweet acid apple-like flavour.

The tree can produce a number or crops each year, making for quite a long harvest season. Our selection is called the acerola Florida Sweet Cherry, and is a pleasant eating variety that is not too sour. The acerola is well suited to pot culture, where it can be kept to a smaller size. It could also be grown this way in cooler climates where it can be moved to a warmer position in the winter.

A word of warning - the foliage of the plant is covered in tiny irritating stinging hairs that can produce an allergic reaction. When pruning your trees, wear a long sleeved shirt and a pair of gloves ✂🍒🌿 #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #fruittree #acerola

The stunning and dainty - White Jacaranda 🤍🌿

A beautiful white flowering form of jacaranda. The White Jacaranda is a spectacular choice for a street tree, or large shade tree. Long lived trees that can grow to be 200 years old. The stunning flowers appear in late spring and early summer.

Grafting ensures flower will be pure white. The foliage is delicate on young trees, and our potted plants are known for their older leaves to turn yellow and drop during transport to conserve energy. This is not a problem long term. With care and acclimatisation, they will bounce back. Our white jacaranda do sometimes shed leaves while in transit. This is not unusual and if you follow the instructions we send on how to acclimatise your plants on arrival, they will push away new growth strongly 🤍 🌿#daleysfruit #whitejacaranda #daleysnursery #jacaranda

The super versatile Pine Nut

The Pine Nut Tree is often called the 'Stone Pine'. This name supposedly comes from the idea that this tree grows well in stony ground. It is an attractive large pine tree that bears cones of edible nuts that are considered a delicacy.

The Pine Nut Tree grows best in dry cold areas. Trees can be expected to start producing cones from about year 6, but one planting in New Zealand produced its first cones after 3 1/2 years. Each cone holds about 50 nuts - 100 kg of cones holds about 20 kg of nuts.

The kernels can be eaten raw, roasted or prepared into sweet meats, cakes, puddings, stuffings, soups and of course, the most popular usage is in the Italian gourmet pesto. It is the source of a high quality expensive oil that is made mostly in France #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #pinenuts #pinetree

The whimsical Silver Birch 🌳

Widely planted in parks and gardens where it is grown for its beautiful white bark and gracefully drooping shoots, the Silver Birch adds an interesting touch and whimsical feel to any garden.

A medium sized deciduous tree to 15-25 meters. The bark of this ornamental tree is white with black markings. Silver birch prefers a cool winter and warm summer and it is tolerant of poor soils.

The Silver birch wood can make excellent timber for carving kitchen utensils such as wooden spoons and spatulas: its very mild, sweet flavour does not contaminate food, and it has an attractive pale colour. Bark can be heated and the resin collected; the resin is an excellent water proof glue and firestarter 🌳 #daleyfruit #daleysnursery #silverbirch #deciduoustree

Spicy and pleasant Cinnamon Myrtle 🍃

The Cinnamon Myrtle leaves have a pleasant, spicy, cinnamon-like aroma and flavour. The attractive flowers are creamy coloured and star shaped, produced in masses, followed by star-like capsules. Due to the beauty of the dainty flowers, Cinnamon myrtle can be used in floristry.

Cinnamon Myrtle is well suited to the home garden.

The tree is adaptable to a broad range of conditions and different soil types. It grows happily in full-sun and semi-shade situations, in open plantings or as a managed hedge. The tree is tolerant of light frosts.

Leaves can be harvested as sprigs for use in cooking - often being used in savoury recipes, desserts, confectionery and soothing herbal teas 🍃 #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #cinnamonmyrtle

Bright and beautiful Liquidambar 🍁

The Liquidambar is a giant shade tree with magnificent maple-like leaves that turn brilliant shades of red, yellow and gold during autumn. The tree grows to 15-20 metres at full maturity, so be sure to plant at least 10-20 metres from buildings and powerlines. Liquidambar is deciduous - meaning it will lose its leaves during the colder months and start producing new foliage in spring 🍁 #daleysfruit #liquidambar #daleysnursery

Flavourful blueberries 💙

Potted blueberry plants are a great gardening project for children, who delight in harvesting the fruit 💙

Apart from being delicious, blueberries have many fantastic health benefits. They are extremely high in antioxidants, and have anti-inflammatory properties, as well as lowering cholesterol in the blood. It is also claimed that they improve motor skills, balance and co-ordination in elderly people.

The longer the fruits are left on the bush to mature, the greater the health benefits - so if you can beat the birds, leave the fruits to the last minute to pick. Blueberries can produce an abundance of fruit over many months, keep them evenly watered with good drainage and use a low nitrogen fertiliser. They are such a great addition to all gardens, from balcony to food forest. Get growing now 🌿 #daleysfruit #fruitnursery #bueberries #blueberrybush
