Fruit Trees

Dwarf citrus trees such as oranges, lemons, and limes are living conversation pieces.

Daley's Nursery has been growing dwarf citrus trees that give delicious fruits for over 30 years. How?
They graft a normal fruiting branch of a fruit tree (called a scion) to a dwarf tree rootstock to create a small tree that produces the fruit of its full-size cousin.

Their shiny foliage, bright fruits, and fragrant blossoms provide year-round enjoyment, meaning they are perfect for potted displays. Dwarf citrus trees require periodic repotting - every third year or so.
They have a shallow root system, so a wide container is far better than a deep one. When repotting, use a fresh mixture of one-third peat moss, one-third sand, and one-third sterile potting soil. Citrus trees respond well to pruning. Keep all the dead branches trimmed off, and thin the plant to the three strongest trunks. 🍋🍊 #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #citrustrees #dwarfcitrus #backyardgarden

Bare root trees are deciduous trees that are sold during the winter when they are dormant. They are grown in the ground or pots during the growing season, and once they drop their leaves, they are lifted, pruned and prepared for shipping.

Bare root trees are easy to transport and plant, and will surprise you in the spring when they push off with a vigorous flush of new growth. They are extremely satisfying to plant and grow, but the best thing about them is they will reward all your efforts with a bounty of home grown fruit for years to come.

The Asparagus is an attractive, fern-like perennial that can produce fresh tasty spears for over 20 years if the beds are well-maintained.

Asparagus prefers sandy soils, but with the right preparation it will perform very well in heavier clays.
Asparagus is a valuable investment in the long term vegetable garden. The plants are either male or female. Both male and female plants produce delicious spears, the male spears being slightly thicker, the females producing seed heads which can be pruned to encourage growth #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #asparagus #backyardgarden

A Multi Grafted Fruit Tree is done through grafting different fruits from the same family onto the same tree.
Another way to achieve the same outcome is to grow multiple fruit trees in the same hole called a duo planting. Remember: You need to continually maintain each graft and make sure that they grow evenly. Don't let one outgrow another. Prune them to be equal sizes. 🍎🍐🍒 #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #fruittrees #multigraft #graftedtrees #backyardgarden

Medicinally this odd looking, pungent fruit is said to cure everything from stone-fish wounds to digestive upsets to far more serious disease. A concoction from the bark, leaves, roots and fruit can be drunk.

When ripe or overripe the skin of the Noni Fruit becomes almost translucent and the flesh turns soft to develop an unpleasant odour. The odour has led to nickname of the 'starvation fruit' due to the fact that you would have to be starving to eat it as a fresh fruit. Strictly tropical climate only. Noni will flower and fruit from under one year old with care and the right micro climate. So worth trying in pots.

The Kalamata Olive favourite in the Mediterranean diet, Olives make an exquisite accompaniment to dairy foods, breads, fruits, relishes and alcoholic drinks. Olive trees are attractive, hardy trees. Well suited to hot summers and cool winters, some varieties have now shown promise in higher summer rainfall areas with low chill. They can survive on relatively poor neutral pH soils as long as they are well drained. They prefer slightly alkaline soils to slightly acid soils. Of course, fruit quality is enhance by healthy, fertile soils. Fruit grown in higher rainfall areas is well suited to pickling, but high fruit moisture content can make oil extraction more difficult. Some drying may be helpful, or reductions in irrigation and/or exclusion of rain falling on the rootzone may help. The following multipurpose olives are well suited to home growing. Those with lower chill requirements have this attribute noted.

The Kalamata fruit is juicy and sweet and have a unique torpedo shape and split in the skin. The most popular olive in Australia, they are ideal for use in cooking or as an olive to eat alone. Suggested cross-pollinators are Frantoio and Koroneiki #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #olivetree #kalamataolive #backyardgarden

Best grown in full sun with good drainage, in a soil rich in organic matter. A strong trellis will give you a well structured plant for ease of harvest.
