Feels like a bag of cement to me. It's a beauty. Now this is a seedling Jakfruit Tree Jakfruits are one of the most stunning trees and impressive trees and that's basically because of the size of the fruit. So they do produce the largest fruit in the world with some varieties producing fruit that are 20 kg or 24kg even so really big fruit. so really big fruit and we're going to try picking  one of these big ones today and getting it back. So it weighs about  as much as a bag of cement. and we have got to carry it
down the hill But this seedling tree would be about 20 years old and it's quite a large tree They fruit off their main trunk and branches and unusually they can also fruit off their roots. if they're exposed so they can produce fruit on the ground but most of them come off the main trunk and branches closest to the trunk and obviously that is where the wood is the thickest. so it can hold the weight of of the fruit great tree to grow you do need a frost free location so they are going to prefer the tropics or the subtropics but they are also quite a hardy tree so if you want to grow them outside of that range and you've got a frost free location they're certainly worth trying. They make a great win break tree so seedling trees are ideal for that and they're actually great for protecting your more sensitive trees like lychees from strong winds so grow your jakfruits on the outside and give them plenty of room so that they can grow into the beautiful majestic tree that that they are

Jackfruit Crisp Orange Tree - Fast becoming my Favourite Fruit

Jakfruits are fast becoming one of my favourite fruits. This is a Crisp Orange Jakfruit which has beautifully coloured arils that are very large and crunchy. They are slightly less pungent in flavour than the soft jaks. And a Dwarf Tree Frog that I discovered in the jackfruit tree while collecting scions for grafting.

JackFruit Tree - Use Fruit Frozen and Dried

We dissected a jakfruit yesterday and put most of it in the food drier and the rest in the freezer. We are now split as to which tastes better. The dried arils are super sweet and full of flavour, while frozen they are a lovely chilled chewy snack. We even boiled some seeds which taste like a cross between Bunya nut tree and broad beans.
Jakfruit are the ideal fruit for drying as the fruit is too big to eat in one go and is the perfect amount to fill the drier. Not to mention they are absolutely delicious. The soft jakfruits are the best ones for drying.

Videos: Fruit Tasting on Persimmon, Custard Apple, JackFruit and Dragon Fruit

The staff of Daleys Nursery have visited Tropical Fruit World and we highly recommend it. Here are some of the highlights from the fruit tasting session. We hope you enjoy them and don't forget to visit them for yourself.

Busting Open a Jakfruit ( Jackfruit )

Not the most beautiful of pictures, however we busted open the
jakfruit this morning for breakfast. The arils around the seeds are
delicious, they taste, like banana, pineapple, tropical fruit salady
bubblegum, were some of the comments, Jesse spat his out and Nina
refused to try it. Carla has just spent 1/2 an hour getting the rest
of the arils out of the sticky latex ladened rags, they are going into
the freezer for a more crispy taste later in the day.

Beautiful Bunchosia & Giant Jakfruit

The Peanut Butter Fruit is a beautiful and unusual fruit tree, ideal for frost free locations. The tree has glossy green dense foliage down to the ground, making it the perfect choice for use as a screen tree. It grows to about 5m at the most and can easily be kept back to 2-3m with pruning. It is at its best when in flower and fruit which both come on together and smother the tree with bright highlights from the yellow flowers and the orange and red fruits. The fruits are very unusual and not the sort of thing you will find in the shops. They are bright red and soft when fully ripe and have a hint of peanut butter flavour with a rich sticky taste and texture.

Jakfruits are also starting to ripen here in the subtropics with the heat of summer. The fruits are huge and hang from the main trunk and the largest branches of the tree which have the strength to support the weight of these large fruit. The trees will also require a frost free site to thrive and are hardy and attractive once established. The fruits are pungently aromatic and delicuously sweet to those who aquire a taste for them. The pockets of fruit that surrounds the seeds is the most edible part of this giant fruit and can be eaten fresh, frozen or dried. The pithy surrounds can be stirred fried as a vegetable and even the seeds are edible and tasty when roasted.
