Lemongrass πŸŒΏπŸ’›

Lemongrass is one of the most versatile of herbs. It makes a delicious herbal tea, is often used in cooking, as an effective pest repellent, and an almost impenetrable weed barrier. Tie the outer leaves in a loop and cook with food to impart flavour. Be sure to remove before serving.

Lemongrass is incredibly fast to become established and drought tolerant. The fleshy, purple part of the stem is used in curry pastes, and can be ground into a paste and added to marinades and sauces to impart a fresh, lemony flavour #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #lemongrass

Carambola - Starfruit ⭐

A large fruited selection with sweet juicy flesh. The juicy transparent flesh has a citrus quality with a floral accent and is delicious eaten fresh, made into juice or into a delicious chutney. Carambola trees have an attractive weeping habit, producing a profusion of pink flowers. The foliage is delicate on young trees, and our potted plants are known for their older leaves turning yellow and dropping during transport to conserve energy. This is not a problem long term. With care and acclimatisation they will bounce back #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #starfruit #carambola

The ever aromatic Lemon Myrtle 🌿

The Lemon Myrtle occurs naturally throughout coastal Qld rainforests. It is a spectacular ornamental tree due to both its appearance and the superb fragrance of its flowers and leaves. The leaves and flowers are used in sweet and savoury dishes, or as a refreshing tea. However, boiling or baking can often reduce the flavour. The leaves are best added to the recipe at the end of the cooking process, and either left to steam with the lid on, or made into a sauce or dressing. It is usually the older and fully hardened-off leaves that are harvested for use. Enthusiasts describe the distilled oil from this tree as 'more lemony than lemon' and it is used extensively to scent confectionery, perfumes, aromatherapy oils, and food flavourings 🌿 #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #lemonmyrtle #backyardgarden

Pluot Plum - Black Adder πŸ–€

Our friend Graham Richards kindly gave us this low chill Pluot Plum to trial from his low chill breeding program. First fruiting this season, excellent flavour and texture. A Pluot is a cross between an Apricot and Plum- however more Plum characteristics are present. The Black Adder has Purplish-black skin with an amber flesh turning a deeper colour when very ripe.

Pluots normally require cross pollination to set fruit, so try cross pollinating with another Pluot, or a Japanese Plum variety- like a Mariposa. We are currently assessing its ability to self pollinate, and will update our growing advice with those results. Ensure adequate sunlight, and free-draining fertile soil for maximum yields and healthy productive trees. Being low chill, it will produce fruit where winters are mild, but still may not thrive in areas with hot summers. Protection may be beneficial πŸ–€ #daleysfruit #daleysnursery #pluotplum #backyardgarden

the versatile Myoga Ginger 🌿

Native to Japan, the Myoga Ginger is grown commercially for its delicious spring shoots and young flower buds that are produced in autumn. Myoga flower buds are used in soups, tempura, pickled, and as a spice.

Like most gingers, it is an understory plant that thrives in partial shade. It can get sunburnt leaves which will reduce its vigor if grown in full sun. In winter the top growth dies back and it regenerates in spring from the underground 🌿
